July contest - ended

Post by Harry Dresden »

Begins July 1st

Contest: Complete these four kinds of runs, using all four classes. At the end of the month, post your fastest run of each type. Remember: each class must be represented - if your best No Pulls run and Some Pulls run are both the same class, you must choose the second best of one type. Prizes will be awarded based on fastest total time count of four run types.
  • * No Pulls, All Permed Skills, Diet, Sidekick
    * Some Pulls, No Permed Skills, Decaf, No Sidekick
    * Max Pulls, only class skills, Naturally Hyper, Sidekick
    * All Items, No Permed Skills, Abstainer, No Sidekick
Prizes:
1st Prize - One of anything that I have 2+ of in my display case
2nd Prize - 2 stars
3rd Prize - your choice of 100 TNT or 400 recognizer bots

That's an interesting mix.

That's different! I'm in, but if people finish as quickly as I expect my holiday days in July may affect my chances badly.

Sure, I'll be in. I don't stand a chance in Hell, but I'll go for the gusto. Just to be certain, you do mean the first person to START and complete each of the runs beginning on July 1, correct? The way that its currently written, one could argue that they could start a run prior to July 1, and then complete it on July 1 to count as the first run.

The contest doesn't begin until July 1st, so the first run can not start sooner than that.

I think I'll go for this. I'm bored to tears on my march to 100 already, so if I'm not done by the first, I'll just scrap that and do this.

Edit: Also, I think I'll take one of your precious Ebon Eyes! BWAHAHAHAHAHAAHA!

If you want to be that cruel and heartless, go for it. I'd buy it back for 2 stars.

Don't know what I'd take, since I looked and didn't really see anything that I'd be apt to use. Not that I'd have to worry about that, though. I was hoping that the contest would only get three participants. :P

A gold star's always useful. Or one of the donation items.

Or an ARF pass! :P

I have ARF passes. I still haven't figured out how to use them effectively.

My plans....
  • * No Pulls, All Permed Skills, Diet, Sidekick - Elementalist
    * Some Pulls, No Permed Skills, Decaf, No Sidekick - Psion
    * Max Pulls, only class skills, Naturally Hyper, Sidekick - Gadgeteer
    * All Items, No Permed Skills, Abstainer, No Sidekick - Naturalist
I might even have a chance at this.

I'll probably try these:
* No Pulls, All Permed Skills, Diet, Sidekick - Elemental
* Some Pulls, No Permed Skills, Decaf, No Sidekick - Gadgeteer
* Max Pulls, only class skills, Naturally Hyper, Sidekick - Psion
* All Items, No Permed Skills, Abstainer, No Sidekick - Naturalist

Just to clarify, "fastest" is based on total time in run, not days in run, correct?

Fastest is indeed total run time for this contest, and days don't matter at all. Mostly because all 4 have to be done in 31 days, so it's not like someone can sit on a 5 Pull run for a week grabbing all kinds of goodies to speed up the run.

Maybe they could, if they do all of the other runs fast enough that they can afford to waste a few days. Seeing some of bmara's runs, it shouldn't be that hard for her to sit on her 5-pull run for a few days, especially if she blasts through the all-items run on a Frayday. I'll definitely be carefully planning out these runs if I'm going to even stand a small chance.

My personal strategy is to knock out the all-items and no-pulls runs at the start, and then see where I stand for the 5- and 10-pull runs. I already started day late, so I'm hoping that it doesn't make a huge difference. I don't think that I had the resources to take advantage of Freyday, anyway.

Stupid no-skills Elemental run...

Proper Grounding - 5176.44 min
Air Shield - 5508.5 min

I mean, honestly, this is getting silly. It's only day 2!

Well, my day 2 in the no-pulls run started out a bit better when I snagged Wraith. However, things slowed down quickly when I hit the level 5 quest and couldn't pull memory tubes to save my life. I ended the day on level 6, and I'm still waiting on a second memory tube so I can start decrypting. Hopefully, I'll be able to overcome this glitch in my plans. Curse you, RNG!

On my 10 pull run, so of course, the first freaking turn in Cochise is the stupid semi-rare.

I'm all class:
You activate the atomic wedge, which zips over to The Mick and jams into them in a particularly painful fashion, delivering 55 damage. You can tell they're not going to be moving very quickly in the near future, neither while trying to hit nor while trying to dodge.

Victory! You beat up your foe and win the combat!
Oh, I'm also done.

By comparison, all of my runs are looking to be like ten hours longer than Cris's, so I'm a shoe-in for fourth place. :P I even did badly on my no-pulls run, which should have been something of an equalizer. I made a few stupid moves towards the end, though. My only hope to even look like I was really trying is to pull off a good 5-pull run. Since I have the rest of the month to do it, I might have a chance to at least have a respectable ending.

Acidcat is already finished, too, I think, though there might be time to try to re-try one of the runs to get a better time. My own times are merely a technicality, since most of you have shorter times for your four runs than I did with only three, so my final run isn't going to change my chances. :P

Yep, as Hardware said I'm also done now. I've been trying to re-run some runs faster, but there is no way I'll even be the same ballpark as mara.

Wouldn't have beaten mara at the best of times, but holiday season, new jobs, new house and everything has made everything a little more difficult. (UK is slightly 3rd world, internet takes 4 weeks to get plumbed in...)

Congrats mara, good luck to Cris and hardware

Short of my math being off, here are the results:

1 - Bmara
2 - Acidcat
3 - Cristiona
4 - Hardware

Bmara, tell me which Display Case item you want. And Cris needs to tell me if she wants the TNT or recognizer bots. Prizes will go out tomorrow.

Sorry Cris.
Well done mara, no idea how you manage to be *so* much faster than anyone else on these runs.
Hard luck hardware, well done for just taking part.

Big thanks to Harry. It was fun :)
