Maso wants you!

Post by Harry Dresden »

In honor of Nommy's hardcore Masoness, I have decided to start up a new contest/bounty. This is going to be a long-term thing, so don't be afraid to join in if you don't find this thread for a while.

Goal: Complete 3 straight Maso runs.

Prize: 5 stars for first to complete, 4 for second, 3 for third, 2 for fourth, and 1 star for the fifth. Heck, if you finish within a month of the last winner, I'll still give you a star just for putting in the effort.

Rules:
- You cannot win if you are Nommy. (She already got her prize.)
- Runs must be CONSECUTIVE. This means no other run types in between.
- Maso runs from before the contest started will not count. Talk of allowing runs that started a few days before applied before I shortened the contest from 5 runs to 3.

Once you've completed the runs, post here and I'll check your profile to verify. Winners will be listed in red below.

Winners
1) Jaico
2) Lichen
3) Seventhcross
4) Lxndr
5) Hannahmaus

That I'll allow. A day or two isn't going to really set you so far ahead of the competition that you'll automatically win.

EDIT: Assuming there even is any competition.

I won't win; don't worry. Cris'll beat me... as will others, I'm sure.

I did 2 Masos back to back when retcon came out, then switched the no-skill setting to "Permed skills remembered, skill points only for class skills, 2 points".

Seriously thinking of going for this, just dubious as I am very slow because I don't do stuff with FT and optimising and all the nerdy stuff serious players do.

I don't optimize... I just play. Which is why I will most likely NOT win.

Psha optimization. It's all about having fun anyway. :3

Also, I find the rules of this contest discriminatory.

Curse you Harry! I just finished my first run and it took me like 15 days to complete... bleh, so many others who can do them so much faster.... I shall try though.

In consideration of how long Maso takes, and how little you people seem inclined to do it, I've lowered the number of runs to 3.

Okay, I gave up on maso... too frickin' hard. Not worth it without some sort of award for doing it. And since Ryme said that's not happening, neither are my maso runs. Sorry.

I bit the bullet and went back into maso. Thing is, first 2 attempts to retcon just reset the retcon form somehow, so by the 3rd attempt I was getting frustrated and failed to set my class! I've always been a gadgeteer since I started and now suddenly I'm an unwilling psion maso. The reasons why that's a big deal are explained here:-

Now that's reduced to 3 straight Maso runs, I'm in.

Nat/Ele/Psion. This is going to be grueling.

Good grief... I'd forgotten how hard maso is. Especially as I don't have any healing as a naturalist. I'm glad the bands event dropped lots of bandaids.

Level 8 through my first maso run... How is everyone else doing?

I stuck with the accidental psion run... it was harsh, compared with gadgeteer. Finished it, now level 6 gadgeteer.

(DOH! at having totally forgotten transmog at the start.)

I can beat that Hannah - my transmog debacle was that I transmogged just before I tried to retcon, not realising that there was a level 11 requirement to retcon.

Was not a happy bunny. Had to get to level 11 again from scratch

Kicked myself for going after the transmog badge and doubly for not realising that you should transmog at the start, not end

Maso? I myself have yet completed ONE run of retcon, so let me backtrack thru some old posts/threads to get my vocabulary at least close to on track w/ everyone else...
...Ok?
(btw, ewww! Some of the post I've already looked at tell me it's a 'some form of female animal kept as a pet' in maso! Sheesh I've work to do...)

'some sort of female animal'?
Nommy's not a Naturalist. She's an Elementalist!

Just finished my first Maso run - took me 18 days. Felt like much, much longer.

Big improvement over my other Maso run near the start which took 43 days (but I went after the space station bonus mettle)

I assume Nommy must be able to do it much faster than that. How long should I be aiming at (what's possible)?

And for the record, I think TeKRunneR has done the fastest run in 12 days, but usually you can get one done in about 15.

I'm still playing - but as I'm only level 5 on my second Maso I'm very much competing for the consolation prizes...

And Nommy - I just looked at your retcon history to try and understand what Harry meant by starting this contest...
I don't understand... why?

And although I love elemental, they do suck at low level. At level 70 or so they're unstoppable

Words you don't want to see:
You can't buy anything from the auction house while you're under retcon restrictions.
Bummer.

If the next IotM is a sidekick, stars will be wholly useful in Maso.
