Retcon contest - ends Nov 26th

Post by Harry Dresden »

I've noticed a lot of people doing harder runs (15+ mettle), so I'm offering a bounty of sorts. Whoever has the fastest 15+ run on the November 26th leaderboards will receive 5 silver stars, probably from one of my alts since I'll still be doing Maso runs on my main.

Perhaps that will be a bit of an incentive for the people doing easier runs to at least try out one of the tougher combinations, as well.

There will be another 5 stars for the best Maso run. Since those won't show up on the leaderboard, post your time here as you finish, along with your in-game name if it's different than your forum name. Only post your time if it's faster than the last posted time. (I'll verify each one is accurate by checking the profile's retcon history.)

15+? Am I eligible? :P

Actually, we should have another pair of leaderboards for 20+. Rawr.

There should be a Maso leaderboard. It seems *slightly* unfair that those doing Maso should be considered alongside those doing 15/16 point runs. My limits are set at 16 points, and i'm almost level 10, compared to lvl 6 of someone on a Maso run.

Well, maso's 22 points. A 20+ would keep the bracket scheme and allow for a little juggling of what minor relief people were willing to take. Of course, I'm pretty sure naturally hyper would beat out keeping your sidekick.

Totally agree. So Ryme, a 20+ bracket? :D

I feel like the current points and brackets favor pull-enabled runs quite a bit. Assuming no sidekick and no skill, compare:
1) 5 pulls/day, no sugar: 16pts
2) no pull, all consumables: 17 points

Both are on the same board. And yet, especially given the length of runs, it seems like 5 pulls/day are a much bigger advantage than having access to sugar. Same deal with runs with skills (to a lesser extent probably, with skills we'll be more powerful, so the effect of iotms will be lower).

Nope. My official stance is that maso is discouraged. Nobody should ever do it. But, because of the range of options, it's mathematically possible to pick the worst of everything, and I'm not going out of my way to block it. But if you pick the worst of everything you GET the worst of everything, which includes the biggest disadvantabe on brackets. I'm not going to give anyone any rewards for doing it (other than the resulting mettle), including leaderboards.

I guess my 5 star bounty for the fastest Maso in the first 2 months will be the only (and best!) reward, then. :)

11 days
55h 57m 35s
20 mettle

I'd like to give a big middle finger to the Alamo, which had one of the twits beat me up for an addition 4.5 minutes lost, and to the Baroness who decided to show up when I went to the last room, adding an additional 4.25 minutes.

All mettle is not created equally ;) Pretty much anything with pulls beats anything else.

So far, Valera is the only one who has posted a Maso run. So the time to beat is 56h 3m 50s.

For the regular 15+ mettle run, the current best is 38h 27m 50s.

As of today:

Fastest 15+ mettle run is TekRunner with 4 days (38h 27m). I don't like that the leaderboards sort by days rather than total time, but I'll work with what's given.

Fastest Maso is still Valera with 56h 3m 50s. I have plans to beat that, but hopefully someone else is also trying to do so.

Also, thought I had posted this but I don't see it ---- If the winning Maso run is under 48h, the bounty will be 10 stars instead of 5.

You beat me by about a turn :p

I almost gave up hope of a 4 day run when The Mick beat me after I tossed 2 TNT, a shocker pen, and my last lightning strike against him. He's a bitch and a half to beat without all those shiny toys. I just got lucky. It's such a different experience when you've only got 20 pulls to work with and you spend 6 of them on Brays.

I have to admit I'm very impressed. Great job, TeK.

For the record, with 17 days left, that is the fastest published Maso run. The fastest 15+ mettle run at this point is also TeKRunneR with 4d 38h 27m.

I would love to take the days out of the calculation, but have to go with the Leaderboard on that one since it is there.

Don't forget that this contest ends Friday. Prizes will be give right after rollover Friday night. As of right now, TeKRunneR is still winning both categories.

The last run I had that would've been before the 26th cut-off... I forgot to pick up 77 Habits, and didn't get it until I was making the rounds to get the level 8 quests :/

Not sure I would have beaten you anyway, TeKRunneR. You clocked some impressive runs, and it was fun competing.
