The special event - 1/24/10

Post by Ryme »

Special event just went live. This will eventually lead to the skill points addition that I've talked about on a few occasions (including some of the Tea Time transcripts here on the forums). But that's at the end of the event, which will probably run for a week or two (most likely two).

As people will note, there's a new area on the map. (Or you'll probably note it. You need Range 4 transportation to get there.) There's strange things going on there, and the events in that location won't spill over into the other locations. Mainly combat is going to work in a very different manner, so pay close attention.

Everything there is completely optional. Participate if you like, to the extent you like. Skill points will roll out for everyone at the exact same time, at the end of the event, whether or not you've participated.

You can expect small changes and additions every day or two for the next week (at least) as things progress.

Darn it! Darn it all to heck! I'll be deprived of internet access for the next few weeks. :(

Oh well. At least I participated in the first night of the event.

It's a special event. One time content. That's reason enough for me.

Muhandes pointed out to me (after I'd already used all my turns, unfortunately) that my custom photo-chopper is an ideal weapon for this area. Hehehehe!

Well, there's a counter, and a line item in your journal. (About which I'm very sorry it wasn't working properly until a few minutes ago.)

There's also likely to be some better drops and some kind of reward at the end for participants.

But mostly, do it if you feel like it. Don't if you don't.

Would you suggest, Ryme, that we save our Frusion items? Will we be able to turn those in for a reward or are those just for our convenience? Or are you ain't tellin'.

Not the basic PP restorers. Ebeneezer might end up using one or two, but if something's unusual or valuable, it'll be more than a PP restore potion.

I'm getting reports from various people that the counter isn't working for them.

Edit: For some reason, Hyde Park and the Sunset Strip Mine seem to be connected. My multis that never went to the mine don't have Hyde Park, and multis that even had just 1 Mine creature have Hyde Park.

I had "Hyde Park Foes" at the bottom of the notes page, with nothing under it.
It's recording fine now, though. It'll just be off by about 160-odd turns.

It's blank until you kill some, but the issues are coming from players that have killed several and it's not even showing the header, let alone the kills.

I had a similar experience to Jesus (I never thought I'd say that sentence), I spent all my turns in Hyde Park yesterday, looked at at my journal today and got a Hyde Park Foes heading under my Sunset Strip Mine section, but nothing in it. It's counting my Hyde Park victories now, but yesterday's are missing.

Yeah. Sadly, the counter wasn't added yesterday, so nobody had their turns recorded from before the counter was added.

At least you didn't level 40+ times and spend over 1000 turns there. Sorry, Yam.

Are any frusion enemies going to remain available after the event? I'm mainly asking for the wiki documentation policy, and of course feel free not to answer.

Nah. Change of schedule. I'll be home for this weekend. I'll still miss most of the event, though.

Sorry about the long delay between updates. The main purpose of the event (skill points) aren't going as smoothly as intended, so I've been trying to drag things out, and then went too far. Today's update marks the last addition until the big conclusion. Probably at least a few days away still, though.

According to the description of the new area, there's a sorta Chinatown nearby.

I guess the weird happenings put a damper on any Chinese New Year's celebrations (Feb 14, 2010). :(

The main map had this over it this morning:-
Chaos and destruction are rampant in Hyde Park. Ebeneezer Samuels says it's due to an unexpected accident stemming from to his "quark frusion" energy research. He thinks his brother Marley might still be alive in a way as a frusion creature. You've had one encounter, with questionable results, and need to find Marley again, if possible.
I spent my 110 or so turns eagerly anticipating something new at Hyde Park yesterday, but only got the usual adventures apart from the encounter with Morrissey at the start. Really, Ebeneezer is Morrissey, see:-

Anyway I digress. I am certain I didn't see anything new, I can see on the wiki there's a new non-combat added yesterday but I'm certain I didn't get it.

Need something to do with all that frusion:

You have 4194 frusion specks in your inventory.
You have 1494 frusion filaments in your inventory.
You have 649 frusion tendrils in your inventory.

And I must have used at least a thousand of them

Can we maybe build something from them? Maybe 420 of them can make a frusion pyramid? This has nothing to do with KoL. I promise. I don't even know what KoL stands for.

I assume the cat-tail, feather, and collar will have some kind of use as Ryme fleshes out Hyde Park a bit more.

This event was awesome. The PP-based attacks and the fact that you had to have 1-100 PP to participate in the battles made this an even playing field. I enjoyed it.

I think the idea for this event was awesome. It was different and required a new strategy. I enjoyed it for several days, then it became a bit... repetitive. I only speak for myself here, but I prefer things a bit shorter. Looking forward for the actual ending, i.e. skill points.

Reading the text of the final encounter, this seems to be planned as a recurring event of sorts. Am I right? I'd like it very much, we need more events.
