Re: Ryme's second novel - now published

I suppose I should get around to playing 2 and 3 then, shouldn't I?

But I'm gratified retro gaming seems to be a rising phenomenon. There seems to be a lot of interest. Hopefully this will strike a chord with some.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Y77R186 I've just published a fantasy novel, "The Eight-Bit Bard": The evil sorcerer Ssor Ssorensen must have attended the "freeze them with perpetual winter" school of villainy, because when he and his minions conquered the town of Noresha, the first ...

Re: Ryme is writing another novel - free to read

I'm getting toward the end of the story, at least as far as the blog is concerned. Once it's done I intend to polish the thing and attempt to publish. I'm in search of a few test readers willing to take a look at the revised version in exchange for a free copy and, since it's a fantasy novel that su...

For any who may have tuned out during my late fall sabbatical or who haven't run across this post before, I've got about half a novel online at this point, and more than a month of biweekly posts in the queue. Recent entries include some of my favorites. Readers and discussion welcome. Patojonas: I ...

Unless things have changed in 3 years (they may have) the kraken isn't *quite* so completely random, in a way that may cause problems for dedicated retconners. When I coded it I was either being nice or being evil, and 7 years later I'm still not really sure.

Re: Ryme is writing another novel - free to read

Just offhand, the 6th chapter title makes me think of a song of ice and fire. Did GRRM influence this at all? I've read his books (except for the newest one), so it's possible. I'm not intentionally giving him any nods here, because I'm primarily focused on games rather than books, but a little mig...

Re: Ryme republished a novel - free download tomorrow!

In the months since Chicagoland was first published, I have learned a lot of things. Some of them about editing, some about storytelling, some about marketing. Quite a few of the most valuable lessons have been outside the realm of the book itself, but have affected how I want to tell a story, and w...

For those of you who can't get enough humor and wordplay from just one game, you may be interested to know I've just published a novel, called Chicagoland , under the pseudonym Aaron Rath. It's a bit more grown up than the writing in the game (some serious themes, language, etc. that have intentiona...

So, I've been working on a novel. It's a humorous, slightly wild, fictionalized memoir style story of years in Chicago and times on the road. Like Twilight Heroes, it's got spoonerisms and puns, and is intended to be generally humorous. Unlike this game, it's a bit more adult (language, some drugs, ...

This is maybe a better Ryme question, but if you were to start TH from scratch, back when it did, but with the knowledge you have now, what would you do differently? Well, the obvious part would be, knowing what I know now, I could have put the game together in less than half the time. There was a ...

Yep, thought that was known. I figured it was nice for the player, but also justify it as the sidekick not having to work, so not charging you for that time.

A whole year has come and gone. Time for another novel in just 14 days! I'm also reading last year's effort for the first time, and it's ... not nearly as bad as I thought it was. AJAX is basically Javascript to make things interactive and realtime. It wasn't something I was ever good at, and part of the reason I never attempted live/realtime PvP. That's mostly my feeling, too. If you can't be bothered to log on for a minute or two to make a few pulls, even if you don't have time to play turns, then it should be your loss. I'm more sympathetic than that. There's "can't be bothered" and then "something came up after work" ...

Thorak, in a way it sounds like you may be advocating for (and happy with) more high-level items. There's probably room for some good pants and shirts at level 25 or 50 that split the difference between xentrium and the IotMs in utility. You think that might help address the issue for you?

It's probably easier to have them drop an item which grants stats rather than directly conveying them, but I'd suspect that's a reasonable thing for them to do. Of course, it's not really up to me these days, but it's a fair idea.
